General Meeting Schedule

MicroHAMS general meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. unless otherwise specified.  Meetings are held in conference room 2200 in building 44, 146.58 simplex is monitored for anybody who requires assistance finding the site or access to the building.  Club meetings are open to club members, those interested in joining the club (see club membership policy), and guests of club members.  Members of the general ham community may also attend a club meeting by sending email to the club at least seven days prior to the meeting.  Space for guests is limited.

For more information or to suggest meeting ideas, contact Dennis-K7DEM.  This list is subject to change so check back prior to the meeting date to verify the topic for the meeting for the current month.

January 16, 2007 Meeting was canceled due to the second Winter Storm of the season.
December 19, 2006 Meeting was canceled due to the Winter Storm.
November 21, 2006 Since the meeting lands in the same week as Thanksgiving, there will be no meeting in November.
October 17, 2006 Dennis-K7DEH gave a great presentation on the theory behind J-Pole antennas and construction details.
September 19, 2006 Kenny-KU7M is going to give a presentation about working the simple digital APRS satellites using a D7/D700.
August 15, 2006 Ray-N9JA talked about his experiences attending the large hamfest in South America and attending WRTC contest.

June 20, 2006 Very small turn out, probably due to the week before Field Day and the nice weather Seattle has been enjoying. The three people attended BS about random things and looked over a nice AMSAT presentation given at Dayton. Lots of unique shots of the SuitSat.
May 16, 2006 Watched the DVD of the World Radiosport Team Championship 2002.
April 18, 2006 New officers were annouced, see the April board meeting notes for details. Covered the details for reserving club Field Day equipment this year and the clubs new magazine subscriptions. Kenny-KU7M gave a presentation on using Winlink over VHF/UHF packet. March 21, 2006 Board elections took place. The new board members are Scott-N7SS, Art-N7CC, Mike-N6MZ, Robin-W7YED, Kenny-KU7M, Mark-N7WSU, Dennis-KD7PSV. Scott-N7SS gave a overview of the previous weekends Digital Winter Gathering. Mark-N7WSU also showed a video he created about the experiences of the N7OS 160m SSB contest crew. February 21, 2006 Rather short regular business meeting this month. Mike-N6MZ gave a great talk on the using Winlink and Airmail for HF communication. The presentation is available here.
January 17, 2006 Had our second club auction and managed to sell everything! Thank you to everybody that took part. We also had a interesting presentation on how to locate and leverage the vanity call system by AE7Q. Check out his website!
December 20, 2005 Movie Nite! Mike N6MZ brought in a DVD on his DxPedition to Kergeulen Island.
November 15, 2005 Mike, K7MDL presented his SDR (Software Defined Radio) and its different options.

June 21, 2005 Voted on bylaw changes for family membership and ran though last minute items for Field Day 2005.
May 17, 2005 Walked through high level action items for Field Day by K7LOG. Presentation by N7CFO on his morse code keys and bugs.
April 19, 2005 Annoucement of new board and a presentation on Redmond ARES by Lt. Gordon of Redmond PD. Included a tour of the Redmond mobile CommCenter.
March 15, 2005 Offical board elections and presentation by N7SS on operating martime mobile for the 160m CW contest.
February 15, 2005 Great presentation on W7YED's experiences putting up an "expensive" tower.

October 19, 2004 Art-N7CC gave a overview of hardline coax and the special requirements when using it.
September 21, 2004 Held the first MicroHams auction and watch video about 3B9X DXpedition.
August 17, 2004 Viewed the very funny HamRadio music video and N6MZ gave a presentation and live demo for the LoTW.
July 20, 2004 Reviewed score for FD2004 and then covered the good/bad from this years Field Day.
June 15, 2004 Reviewed final plans for Field Day and operated KD7SLL's mock FD contest using the loaned IC-7800!
May 18, 2004 Field Day prep meeting. Mike-N6MZ presented the current antenna plans and reviewed the goals for this years event. Then we all watched a CQ Mag introduction movie on contesting.
April 20, 2004 Mike-K7MLD did a show and tell with his latest microwave project, a low cost 10Ghz transverter.
March 16, 2004 Andrew-G0IJI gave a talk about ham radio in the UK and his experiences operating from the other side of the Atlantic.
February 17, 2004 Dennis-KD7PSV discussed his experieneces with the ARRL online antenna course and the modeling tools used.
January 20, 2004 Formal nominations were held for the board of directors. The following people are currently running: Art-N7CC, Andreas-KU7T, Kenny-KU7M, Mike-K7MDL, Rosie-KD7SLL and Mike-N6MZ
December 16, 2003 Finally had necessary ballots to vote on proposed amendments, everything pass! Annouced N6MZ will be our Field Day Chairman this year. Had a great talk on laser communication by N7WLO.
November 18, 2003 Attempted to vote on proposed amendments again, still no luck. KU7T presented a break down of our 2003 Field Day score, compared with other clubs in WWA section. Discussed QRP/battery power for 2004, voted against it for now. Agreed to put one station on batteries for testing purposes.
October 21, 2003 Watched a movie on the VP8SSI South Sandwich Island DXpedition.
September 16, 2003 Update on new 40m band changes, 60m allocation and BPL, presented by Mike, N6MZ. Notes for the presentation available here.
August 19, 2003 Movie Night! - VK0IR Heard Island video, titled "Field Day 12,000 Miles Away", presented by Mike, N6MZ.

March 18, 2003 Rick Beatty, NU7Z gave a great presentation on operating in the microwave bands. He also demo'd his 24G and 47G rigs. Here is a link to his slides.
February 18, 2003 Ray Novak, N9JA (Sales Manager for Icom) gave a presentation on their new D-Star radios, including their repeater system and mobile. The D-Star system is a 1.2G digital system, providing both voice and data channels.
January 21, 2003 Mike Mraz, N6MZ gave a great presentation on the XR0X Dxpedition.
December 10, 2002 Informal meeting, members brought in projects they built for show and tell. Also approved amendment to change meeting to third Tuesday of the month.
November 12, 2002 "Basics of Satellites"

Mike (K7MDL) gave a presentation on working ham satellites; including the types of tracking software available, equipment needed and what the signals typically sound like. Here is a link to the presentation.
October 8, 2002 "Radio Mobile Seminar"

Mike (K7MDL) gave us a demonstration of the Radio Mobile software, used to estimate RF coverage for a network of VHF stations.
September 10, 2002 "Meteor Scatter Digital Modes"

Pete Policani (K7PP)
Pete powered up his first repeater system in his garage in the fall of 1969.  At the time it was only the third repeater system in the entire state.  Today, the system has improved and now provides radio communications covering the State of Washington, Northern Oregon, parts of Idaho & Montana, Canada, and a Satellite Link to Honolulu, Hawaii.   Pete is heavily involved in the Internet Repeater Linking Project, linking repeaters all over the world using the Internet.

Gisli Olafsson (KD7FQA) has been an active volunteer for the KCEOC for quite some time now.  He will give us a presentation on the organization's mission, activities and volunteer opportunities.  The organization also serves as base camp support for the area's Search and Rescue (SAR) teams, providing communications during the more than 90 SAR activations each year.

At our second meeting we met to name our club.  After considering a number of entries we settled on naming ourselves the Microsoft Amateur Radio Club, or MARC for short.  (We would later change this name due to restrictions on the use of the name "Microsoft".)
November 5, 1999 "First Contact"
 
The MicroHAMS club met for the very first time.  We spent most of our time talking about organizational issues such as meeting times, club name, etc.  Our very first speaker was Rick Hodges (KB7TBF) who talked to us about how our members could participate in ARES.
