April 2011 Minutes
Recorded by: N8GNJ Minutes Archive

The MicroHAMS Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting at Tu Casa Restaurant in Redmond, WA on April 14, 2011. This was the first meeting of the new Board of Directors elected at the March, 2011 MicroHAMS General Meeting.

Members of the Board present were:

Scott Honaker N7SS

Kenny Richards KU7M

Scott Slack KD7VBS

Steve Stroh N8GNJ

Josh Williams K7JSH

Past Board member Dennis Harding K7DEN also was present.

Absent were:

Brad Bollinger K7PWL

David Jenni W7CF

A quorum was present.

The primary item of business was to organize the elected board members into specific positions of responsibility.

The 2011-2012 MicroHAMS Board of Directors and their positions are:

President: Steve Stroh N8GNJ

Vice President: David Jenni W7CF

Secretary: Scott Honaker N7SS

Treasurer: Josh Williams K7JSH

Website Manager: Kenny Richards KU7M

Librarian: Brad Bollinger K7PWL

Field Day Manager: Scott Slack KD7VBS

Digital Conference Manager: Kenny Richards KU7M

Other items of business:

* The board inducted Curt Mills WE7U as an honorary member, in full standing, to the Microsoft Amateur Radio Club (MicroHAMS) – passed by unanimous acclamation, the 13th of April, 2011. WE7U will be welcomed graciously into MicroHAMS via an email message on the SEATCP mailing list, and invited to attend the monthly General meetings which are held on the Microsoft Campus.

* No licensing classes or VE sessions are currently scheduled for 2011 due to lack of volunteers willing to help prepare the material for, teach, and administer the VE tests. If any MicroHAMS members are willing to assist in classes and VE exams, contact the board - microhams@microhams.com

* Josh and Kenny will work at deciding upon a date in March 2012 for the mostly-annual Microhams Digital Conference. Active planning for the Digital Conference will soon commence - the success of the MDC is due in no small part to detailed, advanced planning to procure quality speakers.

* Dues restructuring. There has been some discussion among the board and the membership of restructuring dues given that the club treasury is relatively flush, and expenses are minimal (but not zero - insurance, PO box, etc.), and after considerable discussion, arrived at the following recommendation, to be presented at the membership at the next General meeting. Kenny motioned, Scott H seconded, unanimously passed:

Current:

MicroHAMs membership dues are $22 / 1 year, $40 / 2 years, $55 / 3 years

Proposed:

MicroHAMs membership dues are $5/year, $10 / 3 years.

The next MicroHAMS General Meeting will be Tuesday, April 19, 2011 (always the 3rd Tuesday) at 18:00 PDT in Microsoft Building 44, Conference Room 2200. As always, 146.58 simplex will be monitored for anyone who requires assistance finding the site or access to the building. If you do not currently hold a valid Microsoft badge that enables you independent access to Building 44, CR 2200, please call on Simplex. If you're not yet licensed or don't have a handheld radio, please email microhams@microhams.com for a phone number to call.

The meeting topic will be an excellent video called Engineering Connections - more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Hammond's_Engineering_Connections.

MicroHAMS meetings are open to club members, those interested in joining the club (see club membership policy at http://www.microhams.com), and guests of club members. Others may also attend a club meeting by sending email to the club at least seven days prior to the meeting. Space for guests is limited.

If you have a topic you'd like discussed or presented at a MicroHAMS meeting, please write the MicroHAMS Board - microhams@microhams.com, and we'll contact you to discuss it.

See you at the General meeting on Tuesday!

73,

Steve Stroh N8GNJ
