Meeting Change Log

MicroHAMS general meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. unless otherwise specified. Meetings are held in conference room 1052 in building 27, entrence is via the South lobby. 146.58 simplex is monitored for anybody who requires assistance finding the site or access to the building.

NOTE: There is no visitor access from the parking garage.

Club meetings are open to club members, those interested in joining the club (see club membership policy), and guests of club members.  Members of the general ham community may also attend a club meeting by sending email to the club at least seven days prior to the meeting.  Space for guests is limited.

For more information or to suggest meeting ideas, contact Scott-KD7VBS. This list is subject to change so check back prior to the meeting date to verify the topic for the meeting for the current month.

March 16, 2004 Andrew-G0IJI gave a talk about ham radio in the UK and his experiences operating from the other side of the Atlantic.

December 16, 2003 Finally had necessary ballots to vote on proposed amendments, everything pass! Annouced N6MZ will be our Field Day Chairman this year. Had a great talk on laser communication by N7WLO.
November 18, 2003 Attempted to vote on proposed amendments again, still no luck. KU7T presented a break down of our 2003 Field Day score, compared with other clubs in WWA section. Discussed QRP/battery power for 2004, voted against it for now. Agreed to put one station on batteries for testing purposes.
October 21, 2003 Watched a movie on the VP8SSI South Sandwich Island DXpedition.

February 18, 2003 Ray Novak, N9JA (Sales Manager for Icom) gave a presentation on their new D-Star radios, including their repeater system and mobile. The D-Star system is a 1.2G digital system, providing both voice and data channels.

December 12, 2000 “Linking Amateur Repeaters with the World Wide Web”Pete Policani (K7PP)Pete powered up his first repeater system in his garage in the fall of 1969.  At the time it was only the third repeater system in the entire state.  Today, the system has improved and now provides radio communications covering the State of Washington, Northern Oregon, parts of Idaho & Montana, Canada, and a Satellite Link to Honolulu, Hawaii. Pete is heavily involved in the Internet Repeater Linking Project, linking repeaters all over the world using the Internet.

October 10, 2000 “Introduction to the King County EOC Support Team”Gisli Olafsson (KD7FQA) has been an active volunteer for the KCEOC for quite some time now.  He will give us a presentation on
the organization’s mission, activities and volunteer opportunities. The organization also serves as base camp support for the
area’s Search and Rescue (SAR) teams, providing communications during the more than 90 SAR activations each year.
September 12, 2000 “APRS Presentation”Bob King (K7OFT), East Puget Sound APRS Coordinator, came with Bill Vodal (WA7NWP) to give us a talk about APRS. We had a really cool demo of a portable APRS station that fit in an old ammo box.Resources:

August 2000 The MicroHAMS club did not meet this month.
July 14, 2000 “The New Club Logo”Along with recapping this year’s Field Day activities, we also presented our new club logo.
June 2, 2000 “Field Day 2000” – Scott Honaker (N7WLO) laid out the plan for Field Day.
May 5, 2000 “A Tour of the New MicroHAMS Web Server” – An overview of the capabilities of our new web server.
April 7, 2000 “A History of Amateur Radio” – Harry (W7JWJ) and Mary (W7QGP) Lewis came and gave us an audio/visual presentation on the history of amateur radio.
March 3, 2000 “Alternative Power Sources” – Ralph Javins (N7KGA) brought examples of alternate power sources, plug standards for power, and an array of gender bending plugs and adapters.
February 4, 2000 “Pick the Board” – The club met to pick its first board members.
January 7, 2000 “The FCC’s New Report & Order” – Todd Buiten gave a talk on the new licensing structure outlined
in the latest FCC Report & Order.
December 3, 1999 “Name the Club” – At our second meeting we met to name our club. After considering a number of entries
we settled on naming ourselves the Microsoft Amateur Radio Club, or MARC for short.  (We would later change this name due to restrictionson the use of the name “Microsoft”.)
November 5, 1999 “First Contact”The MicroHAMS club met for the very first time. We spent most of our time talking about organizational issues such as meeting times, club name, etc. Our very first speaker was Rick Hodges (KB7TBF) who talked to us about how our members could participate in ARES.
